dsofio
I often want to add some dimensions to 3D views in order to communicate efficiently with people who may not be accustomed to mentally rendering 3D views from an orthogonal view. Seems there should be a way to 'float' dimensions for this purpose, but so far, I find they remain, flounder-like, in the ground plane, with the text usually not discernible and the orientation having nothing to do with my carefully-rotated 3D perspective. Surely I can't be the first to go down this road? Quote Link to comment
Mat Caird
1>draw the dimension in top/plan view 2>modify-ungroup 3>select the text 4>text-true type to polyline 5>modify ungroup 6>select all the dimensino stuff 7>modify-convert to nurbs it's not ideal, but it works Quote Link to comment
dsofio
Thanks, Matt; your approach uses some stuff I've not done before so it sounds interesting even if not one-click...I'll give it a try. --ds Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
In the early versions of Minicad you could make Text and dimensions both act like they were 3D by layer linking. This ability dissapeared, but you can still make plan dimensioning act 3D like by Layer Linking with the Project 2D Objects option on. Edited August 24, 2006 by mike m oz Quote Link to comment
dsofio
Mike, Thanks, that's gotta be easier, and if I need to manipulate text in 3-space I guess I can use Mat's method in conjunction w/dimensioning. --ds Quote Link to comment
