can VectorScript help me?

Recommended Posts

We have recieved a large siteplan with 3d levels, which we would like to convert into a single triangluated mesh.

Task:

each level is a group of two 3D lines crossed. The lines are at the correct Z-Height. I would like to convert these groups of lines into 3D locus points, which could be converted to a surface.

Slow solution:

My impractical solution is to convert each group into a symbol with the origin at the group's center and then delete the symbol in the file resourses. This leaves a 3D locus point in exactly the right location.

Problem:

There are 3500 of these groups and I don't want RSI after approx 8hours of repeated keystrokes!

Faster Solution:

Is there an automated way of doing this within Vectorworks 11, or is it possible to write a simple script to convert to 3d loci? I have no experience with VectorScript, and this could be a minefeild in itself.

any help would be appreciated,

Thanks!

this seems to be working. I saved your text as a new vectorscript in the resourses browser. I tried it successfully on a file with a small number of objects.

...now its working away on the big file. I'll let you know if it is also successful.

it worked!

the big file got into a bit of a loop as I had originally named the layer 3D LOCI. renamed it and worked fine.

I'll use DTM to convert to surfaces and contours when I get home tonight.

I'd like to get into programming vectorworks, its seem less complicated than I thought!
