Aggie463
What is the best way to do curved roof? I tried drawing the curve in an elevation then extruding it but that didnt work too well... Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
- Make sure you have your 2D resolution set to high before you extrude the 2D shape. - Remove any portions you don't want using Solid subtraction. - Convert the result to a Nurb Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
What exactly do you mean by curved? Or, a better way to ask, are the walls on which the roof bears curved in plan view, or rather are the roof framing members (rafters) curved along their length? Quote Link to comment
Aggie463
straight walls, curved rafters Quote Link to comment

CipesDesign
If it was me I would 1) draw the rafter(s) in profile (side view), as a polygon, and in the proper location & orientation to the walls; 2) extrude the polygon to the thickness of the rafter(s); 3) go back to top plan and duplicate the extrudes, placing them as desired; 4) go back to the side view and draw the proflie of the sheathing/roofing/skin/whatever and extrude it to cover the rafters. MKingsley
- Convert the result to a Nurb Mike, what would be the advantage or reason of converting to NURBS? Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Michael K, its a better object for OpenGL rendering. More likely to retain its rendering when you rotate the model. Solid subtractions don't always allow you to do this. You can leave it as an extrude with solid subtractions if you want. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
my architect manual shows you how to draw a curved roof using an extrusion. Quote Link to comment
