convert 1000's of groups to 3D loci?

Recommended Posts

I have imported a dwg of 3d levels

each level is a group consisting of two 3d lines crossed

there are 3500 grouped levels

All I have managed so far is to convert a group into a symbol using its 'object centre' and 'leave in place' and then delete the symbol, which converts it into a 3D locus at the correct location.

It would take me a month to do this for all 3500 groups :-(

does anyone have a faster solution?

I am using Vectorworks 11.0.1 on a mac.

it doesn't work.

...at least not with my limited knowledge of text editing.

all changes result in vectorworks not opening the file.

need to replace the text:

Poly3D(

-132.500000000000028,2.5,50717.584000000017113,

127.500000000000028,2.5,50717.584000000017113

);

with

Locus3D(-132.500000000000028,2.5,50717.584000000017113);

plugging in the modified data for each of the 3500 groups would take a long time.

3d polygon is Poly3D(x,x,x,x,x,x) ie. begin and end of a line

3d locus is Locus3D(x,x,x) ie point

to find "Poly3D" and replace with "Locus3D" works fine

but I can't remove the last 3 coordinates in ths manner

Is it simple to record a series of actions and save it as a command in VW?

eg creat symbol, use object centre, leave symbol in place.

Have you tried Yotorou's script that he posted to your message in vscript section? This looks promising to me. If you need help implementing it, reply there to his post. I think there's a very good chance we can help you.

Once you have the script you'll have the tool for the job if you run into this again. Unfortunately we don't have actions in the pshop sense.

I have the same problem. One solution could be to ask whoever created the DWG file to resave it in a way that was more compatible with Vectorworks.

Question is, what would we ask them to do with their Autocad settings for us to get 3D loci or Polys?

P.S. the other solution is to ask them for the raw files created by their survey (if they used a digital device).
