Importing AutoCAD 2006 2-D drawing into VW 11.5

My brother is working on a project and each time he attempts to import from his source file (a 2006 Auto CAD)the layers are converted into classes, is there any way to stop this from occuring during the import process or better yet just a basic method to convert classes into layers?

If you do custom import, you can select the layers to be imported as layers, or as classes. It defaults to classes. My personal experience is that it is less confusing to put the Auto CAD layers as classes, but that is a personal preference.
