Importing is for foreign goods, i.e. for non-VW file formats.

For domestic drawings, just select what you want in the source file, then Copy (to the clipboard, by Ctl-C or by pull-down command) and then Paste (Ctrl-V) or Paste-In-Place (Ctrl-Alt-V) to the target.
