Alexandre Villares
Is there a simple way of exporting STL? Are there any NNA plans on that front? (I've heard STL is an evolution of IGES wich seems to be supported by VW) rgds,A Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Biplab Posted July 25, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted July 25, 2002 STL is not an evolution of IGES. In IGES you export NURBS curves, NURBS surface and solid geometry. In STL, surfaces and solids are exported as a bunch of adjacent triangles. We have plans to support STL in a future release. Alexandre Villares
How very misinformed of me, thanks for the clarification Biplab! Good luck for you guys at the STL implementation front. Even being less smart than NURBS-based IGES, STL seems to be handy for prototype-machinery output. [ 07-25-2002: Message edited by: Alexandre B A Villares ] Quote Link to comment
David Holcomb
Is there a current way easy way of generating an STL file? The only way I have been able to find to generate an STL file from Vectorworks is to generate a MiniCAD script file, move the file to an older Mac that still has an ADB port (so I can use the CADMover dongle) and then use CADMover to generate the file. Vectorworks, Inc Employee Biplab Posted August 22, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 22, 2002 Currently there is no better way than what you describe. STL export is at the top of our list for a future release. Quote Link to comment
