RenderWorks not recognized by VectorWorks

Robert T

Question

Hi,

I use VectorWorks 8.5.1 and RenderWorks om my Laptop. I had to reinstall the programs after an update of the system (WinXP). Installation and function of VectorWorks and RenderWorks is without any problems. VectorWorks works fine but RenderWorks doesn?t show up in any way. Not even in the VectorWorks preferences, serial number window.

I have had this problem once before two years ago when I installed the program the first time on my laptop. That time the support helped me (can?t remember how!). Now they answer that they do not support old versions only the latest. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix the problem?

:-)

Robert

If I remember correctly, it got to do with Quicktime.

Uninstall everything (VW, RW and QuickTime, if you have it on your system)

Install VectorWorks.

Install QuickTime (from the VectorWorks CD, if you want you can upgrade it later from the net).

Install RenderWorks.

It should work

If you have QT 5 installed, you will need to reinstall it using a CUSTOM install rather than the default RECOMENDED install.

Please note, QT 6 is NOT comaptible with VW 8.x.

When installing, select the Custom install option. The following dialog box select all and continue with the installation.

When finished, you should be able to launch VW with all RW settings.

Also, make sure you didn't move the RW library from out of the VW folder.
