Andrew Weyrauch
Is there still no way of batch creating pdfs from sheet layers in the new vectorworks 12? [ 11-09-2005, 06:11 PM: Message edited by: Andrew Weyrauch ] Quote Link to comment
0 Spunkmeyer
I have used the "Batch Print" command and my Adobe Acrobat Professional driver to do it without problems. I don't know of a way to automate it without using a third-party PDF driver. Quote Link to comment
0 Andrew Weyrauch
Are you using a mac? I should have made that clearer. I'm using mac OSX 10.4.3. I used to use a PC and have used the batch print using distiller before, but I don't believe you can do that with a mac. Quote Link to comment
0 Spunkmeyer
Yes, I'm on a G5 PowerMac running 10.4.3. Adobe PDF 7.0 is one of the printer choices in my printer dialog with Adobe Acrobat Professional installed. I then choose the 'Batch Print' command (under the file menu) in VW12 Designer and go. It works fine for me. Quote Link to comment
0 Kevin
Kevin, I am curious. I have the same setup. When I use batch print, I am required to name each sheet and press the print button. I have to repeat this for each sheet. The program will not batch print unattended. Once all the sheets are printed to PDF, I can then assemble them into one document using Acrobat Pro. Is this what you have to do? Quote Link to comment
0 Spunkmeyer
Yes, I do the same thing. Popping up the dialog is part of the PDF driver process -- I've used Acrobat Pro on both Windows and Mac systems, and it does that for all programs when selected as the driver. Quote Link to comment
0 Andrew Weyrauch
Naming pdf's one by one is fine for small sets, but when I have hundreds of drawings to make pdfs of for print sets, this can take half a day. It would be so much simpler if a batch pdf process could make pdfs and use the sheet name for each pdf automaticlly. It is unfortunate that nemetschek doesn't realize the potential of such a batch pdf utility, especially since VW 12 can export pdfs using quartz technology in the mac environment. 0 Kevin
Perhaps someone with an understanding of Tiger Automator could explain how to automate this process. It seems that Automator should be able to automatically "click" the print button and sequencially number the saved sheets. The result would be 200 pdf sheets each numbered 01 through 200. I agree Andrew. Having to do 200 sheets manually is a pain. For me the bigger problem would be having to remember what the last sheet was numbered. "Was it 182 or 183"? Quote Link to comment
