rudybeuc@gmail.com
Any way to attach a Record to an object style? I'm trying to create a workflow to do some some scheduling of values needed for Manual J HVAC load calculations. I'd like to have records automatically attached to walls I've styled as exterior. It would help prevent manually attaching that data for every exterior wall, window, and door. Thanks, Rudy Beuc Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
You can set it up so that a particular Record is attached to every object created from a number of specified styles + specify the default field values in each case. 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah, I'm going to have another attempt at the Data Manager. This thing has baffled me before, maybe something will sink in this time... Thanks, Rudy Beuc Quote Link to comment

But if you need a hand setting something up say so. Quote Link to comment

Thanks, Rudy Beuc There is a Coffee Break from a couple of years back on the University but I'm not sure how useful you'll find it. It was mainly geared towards IFC mapping (if I remember correctly) plus there have been advances in the DM functionality in VW2026 that won't be covered. Quote Link to comment
rudybeuc@gmail.com
Ok, Any way to use the DM to attach a parameter, or field of a record to all wall styles; and then have that value different for each specific wall style? I want to create a "Cavity R - Value" and a "Continuous R- Value" for entry into ResCheck. This project is morphing into creating worksheets for data entry into ResCheck and Schedule J software. I've come across a method which uses INWS='Style Name' to attach data to a style with a specific name, but that's not the systematic approach I'm looking for. Thanks, Rudy Beuc Quote Link to comment

Yes absolutely. Open the DM + in the first column click on 'Add Criteria-Based Mapping...' + set the criteria to 'Wall Style is <your first wall style>'. Repeat for all the other Wall Styles. Now select all of your criteria-based objects in the first column (your wall styles) + in the middle column click on 'Add Data Set...' + in the dialog click on 'Records' + select your Record Format. Now when you create a Wall using any of those Wall Styles they will automatically have that Record attached to them. Next, go through the Wall Styles (in the first column) one by one, setting the field values for the Record: - Select the field in the middle column + click on 'Define Mapping...' - Select 'Expert Formula' + type in the desired field value e.g. ='5.6' or whatever. - Repeat for all fields for all Wall styles. Now when you create Walls from these styles not only will they have that Record attached, the field values will be pre-populated as per the values you just entered in the DM. Save the Data Mapping so you can call on it in any subsequent file. 1 Quote Link to comment
rudybeuc@gmail.com
Ok What is the Function to return the value of the "Manual R Value" of the wall style? Right now I have the statement =OBJECTDATA('RVALUE'), and it's giving me the "Calculated R Value". Please see the attachment. Thanks, Rudy Beuc Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Can you post a stripped-down file with just a couple of walls + your worksheet? In my quick tests both =OBJECTDATA('RVALUE') + =OBJRVALUE return the manual R-value when the Wall has 'Override calculated R-value' enabled + as soon as it's disabled the same functions return the calculated R-value. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks, Rudy Beuc Final.vwx 52.61 MB · 1 download I went through all of these Walls in the model... ... and all of them were set to use the calculated R-value rather than the manual R-Value. So the worksheet is correct. What I think you have done is edited the Wall styles + set them to use a manual R-Value but haven't checked 'Replace Energos Data' to have the changes pushed through to the Walls in the drawing: We've all been caught out by this. It's easy to click OK without checking the settings thoroughly. Especially when we're used to other styles (PIOs) behaving differently (i.e. we choose which parameters we want to be by style + which by instance). 1 Quote Link to comment
