PDF Printer Broken

Question

My PDF Printer has stopped working. I normally use PDF Printer to create PDF's (which utilizes Adobe Distiller if I understand it correctly). It now goes through and acts like it is creating the PDF but the result is an empty file with a .log extension. The PDF writer works in other programs (I tested with Word), but not Vectorworks. I have tried deleting and re-installing PDF writer but it has not helped. Does anyone have an idea to fix this?

Have you tried opening the .log file in a text program to see what the log file reports?

Have you tried setting the DPI to 300 or 600 rather than 1200 ?

I just got a chance to look at these reponses. I was able to work around the problem by creating postscript files and then using Distiller. I have since installed VW11 but PDF Printer will not work. I am currently running 10.3.3 with most recent security update. The resolution under Print>Vectorworks is 300 dpi and under Print>Printer Features it is set at 600 dpi (I tried 300 dpi, it did not help). This is the content of the log file: %%[ Warning: Empty job. No PDF file produced. ] %% Thanks for your help.

When you refer to "PDF Printer" are you referring to the PDF Printer that Adobe 6 sets up, or the built in OS 10 pdf option?

It is "Adobe PDF" that is available as a pull down option (installed be Acrobat I assume) in the Print command. It is not "Save as PDF".

Have you tried running Disk Utility First Aid Utility to verify and repair disk permissions?

I work with pkaeding; he's out of the office today, so I'm responding in his place. I'm familiar with the technical difficulties he's having, so I can tell you the Disk Utility repair did not help the situation.

Go to File>Print.

Click on the drop down box that says "Copies & Pages" and select "VectorWorks".

What do you have set for "Application Print Resolution" ?

Can you create a new blank document and draw just a simple square and try to print to Adobe PDF to see what happens?

You may need to just reset the printer information.

Go to File>Page setup and select a printer other than Adobe.

GO to File>Print and do the same thing.

Then draw something on the screen and delete it.

Save the file and close it.

You should probably close VW too.

Restart VW and see what happens.
