VW 2023 Architect SP8 Runs on MacPro2019 with MacOS Sequoia and Tahoe

Recommended Posts

I have been using VW 2023 Architect since Sequoia was released with no issues. I design houses in 3D to generate 2D plans and 3D elevations views. I have never seen a problem.

I also now have it running in Tahoe 26.3.2 without issues. I did have to do a new install of VW 2023 SP8 in the MacOS Applications folder.

I did a clean install of Tahoe in a new partition and migrated all my files from my Sequoia drive using the OS installer migration option. When finished I tried to open VW, it got a system message saying it was damaged and should be moved to the Trash. So, a new install fixed that issue.

Because I used migration of all my system files from Sequoia all my previous settings in VW 2023 were respected. I didn't have to reset anything when I opened the app.

This most likely works because my Mac is a 2019 MacPro Lattice with an Intel cpu, 3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W and Graphics card is AMD Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB. The graphics card is not likely an essential, I just include that for comparison.

The only reason Vectorworks tells you VW 2023 is not compatible is likely because it is no longer supported. Otherwise my use of it proves it works fine. According to Apple this is the end of the road for support from them, it's the last OS.

I hope this is useful.

Your use does not prove that it is fine. It proves that the parts of VW you use have worked so far.

And that is probably enough for a lot of users. But there could be many other issues hiding under the surface that could popup and bite you (or someone else) in the future.

First, I am just a volunteer moderator here. I do not represent Vectorworks on this.

Second, there are a number of aspects of VW2023 that have been shown to not work properly under Tahoe:

Web Palettes

Web dialogs

tools relying on browser/UI frameworks.

anything with a GPU dependency (rendering)

Basic 2D Drafting, simple file editing and older legacy tools are more likely to work properly.

My suggestion if you really want to stick to VW2023 and run Tahoe would be to get something like VMWare Fusion and create a virtual machine under an older OS that VW2023 is stable under.

IMNSHO this is not a money issue, it is a time issue. Someone taking your very bold statement that VW2023 runs fine under Tahoe is likely to find that for something they want to do it does not run fine. And they are most likely to find that out at the worst possible time.

Which is why I'm still on VW 2024 on Sequoia.  Because the cost of downtime is so much worst than missing out on the latest features, I never migrate active projects to a new VW version, and never run VW on a macOS that isn't "blessed" by VW.  I'm wrapping up a project in 2024, after which I'll update to Tahoe and start using VW 2026.
