plotting without postscript

i am considering purchasing an epson stylus 7600 plotter (24" wide format). does anyone know if this would require postscript within an existing ethernet connected mac based office? i was told that in order to use postscript, we would have to purchase pc based RIP software amounting to ? $2,000.

we are using OS X version 10.2.8 and 10.3.

No postscript required. I have a epson 9600 and Vectorworks prints fine with the standard epson non postscript print driver either PC or Mac. You need to get the epson optional ethernet card for the 7600 for it to work on a network. No other network card or print server will work.

thank you for the info. any idea if that applies to adobe programs as well (photoshop, illustrator, in design, etc.)?

Photoshop works great because it is not postscript and it is a raster image program verus vector base so it's files process rather quickly. Ilustrator and indesign I do not know about but if their postscript then the output would be jaggy ? I gimprint, the free open source print driver supports the 7600 and it comes with ghostscript, a postscript immulator which seems to work well.
