Christiaan
I want to extend the treads and risers sideways out past the wall finish below a stair. I thought I'd be able to do this by adding an offset to the stringer, however this setting only affects the tread. The riser stays fixed to the stringer location, so you end up with the attached example. Any way around this? Quote Link to comment
E|FA
Ungroup/explode the stair and 3D model? ; ( 1 Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
Crude, but also ineffective. The stair object breaks down into Mesh objects that don't even retain the texture of the treads and risers! 1 Quote Link to comment
E|FA
I hadn't tried it, it just seems like the workaround in different situations. I had a very similar condition recently. What I ended up doing was using the stair tool and then 3D modeling on top of it. It wasn't perfect (or even great), but good enough for what I needed in the time I had. I don't think there's a better option other than 3D modeling the whole stair, but maybe one of the real experts out there has a solution. If not, it seems like a good Wishlist item. I think stair updates are on the roadmap, so maybe it has a shot at implementation. Edited Saturday at 02:40 AM by E|FA 1 Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
Yeah, not many options. The only other I can think is to have two stair objects. On one you turn off the stringers. On the other you only have the stringers on (or ungroup it, so only the stringers are dumb objects). 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Another option would be to turn off the stringers + just make the stair wider. But that's assuming you'd be happy not showing the stringers in plan or section. 1 Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
That's effectively the option I went by doing this. Ungrouped a copy of stair, isolated the stringer, then turned off the stringer in the original stair object. 4 hours ago, Christiaan said: Yeah, not many options. So you have one Stair that has everything apart from the stringers then another Stair that only has the stringers + nothing else? I imagine that is good in 3D/section but doesn't allow the same Top/Plan graphics as if it was all a single Stair. Quote Link to comment

That's what I started doing, but then realised I might as well just generate the stringer from a copy of the stair, isolate it, and then delete that copy of the stair, so all I'm left with is a separate 3D-only stringer and the original stair object. 11 hours ago, Tom W. said: I imagine that is good in 3D/section but doesn't allow the same Top/Plan graphics as if it was all a single Stair. It's actually fine because the 2D and 3D visibility settings are separate; you can turn off the stringer in 3D, but show it in 2D. Quote Link to comment
