Is Hoist objects limited in the Data Manager in VWX2026?
Im trying to learn how to do some automatic mapping and making custom datasheets, showing only the information i need.

Very new to using the Data Manager at all, so any tip is welcome!

Cheers

Using "parametric object - Hoist"
Gives everything, but mappings and conditions are greyed out.

Creating a criteria based mapping, finds 3 objects in the criteria dialog, but nothing in the data sets window

Can you provide more details on what these custom datasheets should show? Are you thinking of worksheets and databases? What information are you trying to pull from the hoists? Please post a sample file so that the collective can take a look.

I've not gotten so far as to actually have anything in a file that is not already in a blank document.
This is a blank document with 3 hoist objects put in, nothing else.

I would love to map the "function" field to fill based on what layer it is on for example, but im just trying to get started somewhere.

Im mostly curious as to why "parametric object - hoist" fields are not definable nor mappable, and why criteria based ((PON='BrxHoist')) says no objects found, when it actually does find objects when editing the criteria!

I've found that there isnt really much information regarding WHAT you can do with the tool, as in different use cases, or maybe im just bad at looking.

The data manager can map most data -from- the oip of objects, but not -into- the fields in the oip. A good example of how we use the data manager for spotlight objects is the EntEquipUniversal record we attach to most Spotlight objects during insertion. We've mapped several fields to pull info from the device's OIP and insert this into the EEU record. You can make changes to the OIP, and the EEU is updated. However, you also have the option to change the EEU from By Style to By Instance and then can edit the info in the EEU without changing the info in the object's OIP.

As for your Layer need, I've edited my EEU to add a layer field. I've then added the layer to the same record for Truss via my data manager, and it reports the layer of the truss. Moving the truss to a new layer updates this field, but editing it does not move the truss.

Have you explored the offerings in the VW University?

So, just a followup.

Pushing data INTO OIPs is a hard limit? or is there SOME fields/values that can be populated by a mapping?

I've not seen any that allow this direction. I've played with Lights, hoists, truss. I won't say it's impossible, but I've not seen it. And, when I asked the coders about writing to the OIP, it was not currently an option.

PS: What you may want to do is explore scripting and worksheets. As we can make many edits via worksheets.

Yes, i've managed to make a worksheet, that uses a script to map the Hoist ID to the Name field of its connected bridle.

And that whole endeavour made me think that there must be an easier way!

But maybe that route is what i should focus on!

Thanks for the inputs!

I’d like to tack on to this thread with a similar question if I may

In 2026 ive been trying to use Data Manager to take the “wall ID” from a led wall to a field on a custom record attached to the panel symbols used to build the wall.

I have a custom report that can confirm that the records are still working for the panels within the wall, but none of my mapping can seem to add the info from the PIO to the individual symbol records

have you explored the data manager classes in the VW university?
