Rack as accessory

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a solution to create a 3D rack in ConnectCAD as a style or accessory.

As we often work with the same rack manufacturers (in one project) and currently use a lot of racks (round about 300) of the same type, this would be very helpful.

I would like to define a rack once in the overall properties and then use it in the same way in different files without copying and pasting. The style would have the advantage that the properties for all racks in the file change when I adjust the style.

Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Hello @Thomas R

You can save any Vectorworks parametric object as a symbol. Select the object and then use the Modify / Create Symbol... menu to create the symbol. In the dialog check the Convert to Plugin object box so that the symbol becomes a parametric again on placement.

That all the is to it.

@Conrad Preen But convert to PIO does not solve the actual problem which is he has multiple racks and would like to be able to change them all with one go.

He would like them to be able to remain a symbol (instead of converting to PIO) or to have a style so they can all be edited in one go.

But the work around might be to use Custom Modification if there is a reasonable way to select just the racks that need to be modified. Class? Layer? Record?

Let me understand here. Are changing the kind of rack you use 300 times in one project???

If you configure the Rack object the way you like and save it as a red symbol (convert to parametric), then you can put that symbol on the drawing and all you have to set is the name. You can also keep that in your template so it's always available. What is the requirement that this does not meet?

And let me be clear - I'm not against your suggestion. I'm trying to get a feel for the urgency of this because we don't have unlimited resources.
