Clip cube doing crazy things

titus.grey

Question

Hi guys,

As much fun as I get from getting errors in Vectorworks, this one blows me away. Does anyone know why, during an activated clipcube, I get random elements that are NOT CUT to display as being cut? Those two elements are just some extruded polygons. Problem doesn't go away when converting them to generic solids. I can recreate them over and over again, delete the existing one, put them back. but always if i put them there, with the same textures, it gives me this amazing effect THAT I DO NOT WANT!

Cheers

Does the file contain a Stair object out of interest?

I would like a copy of this model if you can share it.  This can happen if there is an object in the model that claims it is a well-behaved solid when it is lying.  If you can't share the whole model you should be able to remove objects until only the bad one or two are showing the problem.  Thanks!

Having the same problem here. One component from a Gallagher G Block, which is provided in the Vectorworks entertainment library. Color is dictated by the 'cap fill color' in viewport advanced settings. This is the internal side edges of the fork pockets. In the case below, one set of pockets is supposed to be in the clip and shows up funny, and a second set is not even in the cube. If you edit the viewport and navigate to the design layer, orbiting in 3D makes the second errant one appear and disappear as if one face of the clip cube was a window, ie, you can only see it through one pane. See second screen shot.

This seems to be the same root problem I was having in another drawing where stacking order was all wrong and 3D objects were violating reality. See my previous posts if you're curious. I'm sure you can recreate this yourself using the factory VW symbols.

@titus.grey The texture interaction you mention is interesting.  I was able to get the model to render correctly just by turning textures on and off in the shaded render options and then saving the VWX again.  Maybe this works as a workaround for you.  It appears as if the generic solids are problematic on initial file open, changing texturing may be causing the solids to regenerate to fix them.

The clip cube is doing this because the texture 8015_Granite Floor has an Image Mask transparency shader.  I've found that the clip cube does this sometimes when using alpha textures.  If you remove the shader, everything works.

I remember posting about this way back in 2021 or 2022, it's been an issue for a while.
