Navigation Pallet in Fundamentals

Background:

I have used VectorWorks for a couple of years doing some freelance work in the entertainment industry and some 2D work drawing line diagrams and room layouts in the install world. Recently got VectorWorks at the day job as a network admin at a university to update our network documentation. The goal is to have a single document for all network connections within a building. (AP's, wall ports, IP cameras, etc.) Naturally I would like to have each item in a class, as well as other classes of things that I can turn on and off to clean up whatever we may be looking at and discussing at the time. In Fundamentals I do not have access to the Navigation Pallet. That feature is only available in the higher packages. I can go to the Organization Dialogue Box and make these changes, but it is a lot more clicks for the same result.

 

TL;DR:

Add Navigation Pallet to Fundamentals because going to Organization Dialogue Box is 4 extra clicks every time.

Can you save views in Fundamentals? If so, set up the saved views you need and duplicate and edit the saved views to give you mored views. 

 

Change the active layer with ctrl/cmd+ up/down arrows

Change the active class with ctrl/cmd+ left/right arrows

If Filters are available, created saved views and using filters.  Add the filter to the layer menu in the view bar to restrict the selection when using the cmd up/down arrows.

 

Tip when using Filters is to have keywords in your layers to make creation easier, e.g. '00' for ground floor.

 

Name layers by 'system' too.

 

Otherwise, tag layers and use the tag to filter.

In my NSHO, it is unlikely that VW is going to add the Nav Palette to Fundamentals.

 

Architect is currently $30-$45 a month more than Fundamentals under the subscription plan.

 

How much of a speed improvement would you need to see to justify and extra $30/month?
