Classical Designer
In an attempt to make things consistent in our firm, I'm creating a bunch of custom markers for VW. An issue has arisen when creating the section marker with a gap. As shown in the attached image, the Gap Line length is set to 1", but the lines themselves are not equal. I know how to change the marker and end marker, but not the line position. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
markdd
The gap is measured from the insertion points of both marker graphics. You could try moving the insertion points of the Marker Layouts, but that will doubtless have a knock-on effect when in a rotated position, as you see above. If you do decide to do this, then you will need to abandon the separator line. You will also need to make sure that all the text geometry is set to as below. The upshot to all of this is this result. Here is the file. Custom Section Marker.vwx Edited March 26 by markdd 1 Quote Link to comment
line-weight
I'd try making the smaller symbol with the filled rectangle you've got but plus a short section of dummy "line", in such a way that it measured the same width as the symbol on the other end. As @markdd says you might find there are issues when it's rotated though. By the way it's really confusing that VW calls this the "gap line length". It makes it sound like you are setting the size of a gap. I wonder how many users only ever figure out what it does by trial and error. 1 Quote Link to comment
markdd
@line-weightI updated the post with a partial solution.... 1 Quote Link to comment
line-weight
Have added my alternative solution (vwx file attachd) - means setting the "gap line" length to 1, and changing the line length would mean editing the marker layouts, but it does allow that separator line to be kept. Classical Designer
I appreciate the leads on how to make this work. I'll keep at it and post what I eventually come up with that works for us. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
markdd
@line-weight I think this is a better way to do it, as the insertion point of the markers remains in the Centre. Probably need to create a separate symbol for the 2nd end, then just store the whole setup as a plug-in style. Now, all you have to do is remember why you made the plug-in style in the first place!! 1 1 Quote Link to comment
