Here is a reasonably acceptable workaround that should suffice in most cases: use MATH in the object info palette (OIP), or in any numeric date entry field, such as the offset distance in a duplicate array. For example, draw a line and then DIVIDE it's length by any value (use the forward slash for DIVIDE), or draw an arc and use the same process on the SWEEP value, etc. etc.

For a lot of the purposes that you'd want to divide a line into segments, it's faster to use a group.

For example, in an interior elevation, to show 17 risers between two floors:

-Draw a line along the lower floor line.

-Issue the Group command (makes the line just created into a group).

-Enter the group by double-clicking on it.

-Switch to the Offset tool and click 17 times above the line (offset distance is immaterial).

-Exit the group.

-Grab the top center handle of the group and stretch it to the floor line above.
