Austrian Drape

Hi ya'll!

 

 

I am attempting to create a partially lifted curtain with an Austrian style form (see image below). I have gotten close... I have referenced this forum post as well...

I have got a work flow to create the scalloping portion and vertical folds using the loft tool, but when it comes to smoothing the horizontal and vertical curves together, I am struggling. I have explored the drape tool both on top of these forms and also from scratch, but have not been able to manipulate it in the way I am going for. If anyone has any input, I'd love to hear it!

How 3D does it need to be? An image prop with a bump map texture could look ok in a rendered view, but it would look flat in a section

Unfortunately, we are looking to use it for lighting renderings, so we are looking to have something with a 3D form.

@Sierra Hi Sierra.   What you are proposing here is possible, but a little tricky.  The drapes below were modelled in Vectorworks/ rendering in CINEMA 4D.

 

Having said that, this is very interesting.   Going to have a look at it.

So you may need a Mesh.

 

You could try to create one in VW with SubD.

Search Google Warehouse for something similar suitable.

Or use Blender to create one and export is as OBJ for VW. I have seen some nice Blender video tutorials about curtains.

@Sierra     Did this fairly quickly in Vectorworks.  The transition from Vertical to Horizontal is a little tricky.
