User Libraries do not show up in Vectorworks 2025

Zsofia Kedves

Question

Hi Everyone!

I just start using VW '25.
My User Library folder is on Dropbox, but fetched entirly locally on my hard drive.
Moving from VM'23 to '24 was smooth, had no issues at all with importing/selecting my user libraries.

I have trouble though within VW '25, my user libraries are not showing up in the Resource Manager.

I checked my settings in VW '24 and set the sources accordingly. With VW '24 it is still working, so probably not the source is the problem.

I tried a lot of things I found here in the forum:
- refreshed the whole RM via the gear icon and did a refresh on the User Libraries directly,
- deleted the RMCache (Vectorworks RMCache/rm2025) several times,

- moved the folder to another local drive, and tried to link that,

none of these solved the problem.

I appretiate any help! :)

Did you batch convert your Workgroup Files to VW 2025 file format ?

I don't think it would work if the 2024 Workgroup folder was just copied.

I was not aware that you can redirect your User Preference path in VW. As I see in your screenshot it is possible - so it should work. But I am not sure if it is a good idea to use the same path for User AND Workgroup folders (?)

Thank you for your comment!

What do you mean by "batch convert your Workgroup Files to VW 2025 file format"?

By default I set only the "User Data and Preferences Folder", it worked fine with the same folder with VW '23 & '24, I did not have to do anything when I was moved to the new version just point to the user library folder it fetched everything properly after restart the VW.

The "Workgroup any Project Folders" field is now only set because I saw a forum entry suggesting to use it - did not solved my problem obviously.

Is your 2025 Resource Manager completely empty or are the folders are there and you simply can't access anything in them?

Thank you for your response!

The Resource Manager in VW '25 contains the default resources under VectorWorks libraries, but the User Library is completly empty as you can see in the screenshot of my original post.

I add here the Resource Manager from VW '24. As you can see my User Libraries contain many custom resources such as diff. kind of plants, playground tools etc.

All of these are missing dispite that I point to the folder in the Preferences (see original attachment).

You need to either manually or using the Migration Manager convert these files to VW2025 file formats and store them in the 2025 User Folder.

There was "recently" (can't remember if it was between 2023 and 2024 or between 2024 and 2025) where the file structure for the resources changed, so you may need to double check that you get the files into the correct folders in the library.

@Zsofia Kedves needed to re install v2024 on my MacBook  - updated Favorites from saved V2021 versions

Only a few Favorites came over with the Migration Manager - after several attempts  - gave up

Followed @zoomer advice to Batch Convert - ended up with about 15 more out of 25+ Favorites in the v2024 format - the balance I just opened and resaved as v2024 format into the v2024 Favorites folder ...one at a time.

Did not want to spend the time to dissect the VW issues,

On the Mac - found out there are two locations for VW Application Support - could also become an issue
