homero
I am trying to insert a dormer onto a gable roof. I have created the 3d symbol from a window as suggested by many videos on youtube. When I try to insert the window onto the roof, it comes in parallel to the roof slope. How can I have it rotate perpendicular to the roof slope? I have panned all over the roof with no success. homero
Window is turned 90 degrees from the dormer face. Why is this? Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
You need to edit the Window symbol and rotate it there. Quote Link to comment

Pat Stanford
I don't use dormers, so I can't answer your question. Hopefully some of the architects will chime in. Quote Link to comment

If you Ungroup the Roof or Roof Face with the Dormer in it the Dormer will convert to separate Wall + Roof Face objects. But obviously then you lose the parametric control of the Dormer (not that that amounted to much in the first place 🙂). 7 hours ago, homero said: Do you know if VW is working on a dedicated dormer tool? There has been much discussion about upgrading the way that Roofs + Roof Faces handle symbols inserted in them. I normally tag @Matt Panzer on occasions like this for an update. I imagine it will be a case of "It is definitely on our radar but I can't give a precise timescale for it at this point" 😀 Ideally there would be a way of joining (the dormer) Wall components to Roof components but that sounds quite complicated... I only ever use skylights, not dormers, and I think ultimately the two things need to be treated separately. For a skylight, all you really need are the controls you have when inserting objects into Walls e.g. component wrapping. Quote Link to comment
