Bruce Kieffer
Here's an example: I have parts (objects) with alphabetical part ID records. I want to find all the parts with say the Part ID record A. Aside from creating a worksheet to see them and then find them by "selecting object", is there a simpler way? Quote Link to comment
markdd
Also, try the Select Similar tool with Database Records Active. Quote Link to comment

It will select them, but I still have to find the selections if they are not on the visible layer. I suppose I could narrow the selection to a layer. I have to work more on this. I can't make this work, but I do have trouble selecting similar objects like data tags. I think there's a problem with the select similar tool. Quote Link to comment
markdd
I tried it on a Data Tag with a record attached before posting the earlier comment, and it worked fine. Now and then, I can't select objects because this button was selected in the mode bar by mistake - Could that be the problem? Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
I never really understood the 'Database records' option. I don't find the description particularly helpful: What exactly is the selection criteria? I can't get it to select anything. Quote Link to comment

I cannot get it to select the data tags with the selection criteria set to Object Type. Isn't a data tag a type of object? When I use Object Type as the criteria, then only the Data Tag I click with the select similar tool is selected. None of the other data tags. Quote Link to comment
markdd
I have had no problem selecting Data Tags with this tool. But it's not Data Tags that you have asked to select is it? I have found that selecting objects with the same Data Record with matching data entries will select just fine using Database records as the only criteria. Try it with this file..... Database Records criteria.vwx Edited January 17 by markdd Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Ah... I see that now. Thanks @markdd Quote Link to comment

Database Records criteria.vwx Ok I was trying it using objects where the Record included Pop-up fields. It doesn't seem to work if there are Pop-up fields. In terms of selecting Data Tags, I find that using 'Object type' as the criteria just selects Data Tags of the same style, not all the Data Tags. I kind of feel like Bruce that 'Data Tag' is the object type so why doesn't it select all Data Tags, regardless of the style? Quote Link to comment
