New Tool for Site Walls

pb3214

Question

The existing wall tool is great, but it doesn't solve our problems as effectively since it is based on an interior architectural wall. Nearly all of the site walls we design include a footing, wall, and wall cap. Sometimes those materials are different from each other and sometimes they are the same. In the current environment we must create each of those elements separately and then adjust them independently as design changes occur. I would love to see a new tool for site walls, and I think it would be possible to modify the existing Column Tool to solve this problem.

The new tool would be similar to the column tool in these areas:

  • Column tool base type = wall footing
    • Ability to define the footing material, and dimensions (height and width)
    • Bonus points if we can control its offset from the wall centerline if needed
    • Bonus points if we can create a custom footing shape from a 2D polyline
  • Column tool shaft type = wall components
    • Would operate similar to the existing Wall Tool
    • Bonus points if we can create stacked walls (from another post) of different materials. For example, the wall underground or to a certain height is made entirely out of CMU, but above ground changes to a brick face with CMU core
  • Column tool capital type = wall cap
    • Ability to define the material and dimensions (height and width)
    • Bonus points if we can create a custom cap shape from a 2D polyline (similar to Revit)

The site wall elevation would be controlled from the wall cap point, just like how the column tool works today. Not sure how this could integrate with other existing commands like Stepped Walls, but this would greatly help our modeling workflow.
