How do I pull an elevation from the Grade Tool using Stake just in 2D?

MINDI666

Question

Hi all, I am trying to create a grading plan. I usually don't need to create a 3D model. So I prefer to do the grading plan in 2D.

Normally I use Stake tool and log in the existing grading data along the property lines.  And I use Grade Tool to get the slope. And when I calculate the interpolated grade between the existing grades, I measure the distance between the interpolated point to the existing grade point, and use a calculator do to the math. Then I manually log in the interpolated grade data. It takes quite a bit time if the site is huge. I wonder if there is a way to just pull the data between two existing grade points with the known slope? For example, check the snip below. The existing building grades of two points are 54.65m and 55.55m (these two are Stakes), and the slope is 6.5% (by the Grade tool). How can I generate the IBG (interpolated building grade) from the slope without manual calculation?

Thank you!

I may have misunderstood what you're doing but if you place a Stake on the Grade object in a 3D view the Stake will report the elevation at that point. You might need to do something like first place the Stake in Top/Plan, switch to Front view + use Move By Points to lift it up to the Grade, return to Top/Plan view.

Hi Tom. Thanks for the reply. I do not use 3D view. For some reasons we do not need to use 3D view for this project.  I hope to see if I can figure this out in a 2D view.

I thought you might be able to make the grade, change to a 3D view and snap a stake object to the grade. The stake object can show you the correct 3D elevation along the grade.

I’ve made a YouTube movie to cover this, available tomorrow.

That's what I suggested but the response was that they want to do without leaving Top/Plan.
