Create Water Feature

Recommended Posts

I want to create a water feature for a client.  I created the upper and lower water fall area as well as the site grading using 3d polys as site modifiers....site is flat so I have to do some heavy fakery to make it remotely believable.  I'm not sure the best way to connect the stream with a stream bed and sides so it shows it flowing down hill with intermittent water falls.  Whats the best tool/tools to use to create it?  Its the highlighted object.

Hello, I saw this when you posted.  I was working on something else, but was interested in seeing what the others came up with.  I don't know where the usual suspects are on this one.

Can you elaborate a little more and perhaps post some pictures similar to what you are wanting to do.  Others should chime in when they see more detail.

I ended up just using 3d polys classed as SiteDTM modifiers and changed the individual verticies as needed.  Its not perfect but I think it will give the client an idea of what I'm thinking.  The site is flat so I started by grading a hill pretty far into the yard, updated the site model then used the 3d polys to make a swale.  Then I took another set of 3d polys offset to create the benches and sent them to the surface of the site model.  Once that was done I connected the individual vertices where needed to resolve the funky geometry.  I created a hardscape and draped it over the ponds and stream.  its the first time I tried it so It took a bunch of trial and error but I think I have a method.  I think as I create them I will save them as symbols...I'm wondering if any of the pond manufactures have 3d cad ponds worked out.  They have all their equipment as CAD details but I don't see anything like complete water features.  I used Dynascape for a number of years and they had 2d pond layouts available.  I guess you could use that line work to create 3d polys and create that way.  I'm going to ask Aquascape what they have....I don't want to reinvent every time.
