File "Not Recognized", age or sharepoint issue?

Hello,

 

I am trying to access a lighting plot that was stored on my company's share point file, and the vectorworks file is an older file from 2017 that will not open. I have read this thread about the issues they had with their file sharing, and it does not seem that we are having the same issue. However I am not entirely sure

 

The file is named:

DRA LX Plot 20250106.vwx

 

When I open the file it reads;

"This file was created with an older version of Vectorworks. It will be converted and opened with the same name as the original file. The original file will be renamed: DRA LX Plot 20250106 v?b0.mcd"

 

I click ok and then receive the following message;

"This is an unrecognized file. It may be a Vectorworks file created by a newer version of the application, it may be a very old MiniCAD file, it may have been created by another application, or it may have been by a hardware or system error."

 

I hit ok and nothing happens. 

 

Is this issue caused by the file being created by an older version of vector works, or is this because of a similar issue to the other thread and sharepoint is the issue.

 

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I have encountered this with Cloud file storage when using Project sharing. Make sure that the file is fully downloaded to the folder on your machine. (BTW, .mcd is an old and obsolete Vectorworks file format).

To get some idea of how old the file is, open the mcd file in a text editor (not a word processor) and post the first line here. We should be able to tell you what VW version it is saved as.

 

At least if it is after VW9.5 or before.
