Strange scale resizing between design and sheet views from Autocad dwg import

Jack Wallington

Question

I've imported a site plan from an autocad file, the Design layer is scaled 1:1.

When I create a viewport and place it onto my A3 Sheet layer, and set it to a scale of 1:300 (for example), and I then go back to the Design layer, rather than going back to 1:1 scale, it seems to be stuck on the scale of the Sheet layer.

I'm pretty sure that can't be right, as I thought I could have 1:1 or any scale in the Design layer, and then choose the scale I want to set in the Sheet layer separate from that.

I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Have I done something silly with the Autocad DWG import?

If you are using the right click on the Viewport to Go to Design Layer, make sure that the Display using Viewport Attributes is not set. Right Click on the viewport and choose Edit to get to this dialog box.

Thank you, I have just unticked that but it still seems to be doing it.

If I go to that sheet view, it's set at 0.17% and the sheet is tiny, so I have to zoom into it.

If I then go back to the design layer, the drawing has gone and it's set to 54%. But the correct zoom for these plans at 1:1 seems to be 0.086%.

I then try and find the drawing again at the right zoom level, but the minute I leave either sheet or design layer, the drawing has gone and the zoom has gone crazy. I can actually only seem to get back to the drawing and scale on design view by going to the original imported drawing on a different design view, which has also vanished, and then hit right hand zoom icon in the top menu. Then go back to the design view I was working on.

Sorry, I've not had this happen before so it's a bit confusing.

You should post the file.  It sounds like you imported it using the wrong units settings.

Thanks, yeah, I think it must be something fundamental with the import - I was thinking about resizing the objects too but I'll start with looking at the import first. I'll post it once I can delete all of the data from the sheet later.
