Most times moving things to front or back works fine to be able to select the item you want, but sometimes that can be a hassle and you have a fair bit of sending to back or front afterwards to get the drawing back to how you want it.
It would be nice if you could hold your cursor over a point and, perhaps by alt-clicking, toggle through the various objects till you get the one selected that you are looking for -without changing the drawing order. (Yes, other programs which we will not mention have this capability.)
This is a two part wish, the second being the ability that you could somehow then (shift-alt?) lock that selection to be able to grab and move or otherwise edit it without losing items or unintentionally selecting new items.
