Updating the Flyover Tool

Is it possible to make some updates to the flyover tool that would bring it in line with most other CAD packages like C4D and Maya? The ability to hold down control to access the flyover with the middle button is nice but could be improved upon. In a perfect world it would be great to just copy the navigation method used in C4D and Maya. But honesty, I'd just settle for the ability to customize what keys trigger the temporary flyover tool.

I think it is more about the temporary Flyover during a Command, not the Flyover Tool directly (?)

For those of us without C4D or Maya, what are you looking for?

 

I prefer to use the Flyover tool with the second (Interactive Origin Mode) with some increased sensitivity.

If I set the Flyover Tool that way, those settings are "Sticky" and remain when I use the (CTRL+ middle mouse button) temporary flyover tool.

Flyover Centers in VW with the Flyover Tool or in boomerang mode are OK.

But View Navigation in other Apps feels better for me.

 

Setting Center, when in Flyover Tool, works for boomerang too, yes.

But if you use a 3DConnexion Space Mouse, VW will view rotate about file center only. If you use Pen input and have no Scroll Wheel, Zooming (about Mouse Cursor) is very hard in VW.

For the Flyover Center, I have seen more intuitive Solutions. Like the "rotate about selected object" option is nice. But in some Apps you do not need to select first, it works already when hovering your cursor over an object.
I could live well with rotation center being always in view center only though. As it is predictable and easy.

 

I have no other 3D or CAD App that has own "Tools" for View Navigation. View Navigation is always something always accessible even while you're in a Tool or Command. And at least all of my 3D Apps offer an alternative View Navigation with a simple one button mouse + a shortcut.

 

And View Navigation should never be mixed with Command UnDo stack. View Undos should be separate or not exist. It is not that long since VW offered that option in slices over a few years. I have another CAD App that still does this sacrilege. Throwing in each 3-column Scroll Action into the Undo stack makes the CMD+Z UnDos useless and the resulting View back change is hindering in itself.
I have never had any 3D App that did that, only 2 CADs.

I might have misunderstood what you mean - but with my 3DC Spacemouse it operates in "helicopter" mode.

Ah, yes, most people love that - but I get motion sick from it 🙂

I am always in classic turn table mode with locked horizon ...
