Ben3B
Hello what is the connector name for nl4 female ? I can't find it in the XML file :( Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted November 26 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 26 Hi Ben, are you trying to make a cable? or, an adapter? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted November 26 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 26 @Ben3B we dont document male and female connectors in the cable tools currently, the cable connector xml file only details the over all type of connector. From the image you're trying to create barrel adapter or sex changer (we used to call them spookies back when I still worked in the real world), in this case the easiest option would be to create it as a cable part. The adapter dropdowns don*t really do sex changers or barrel adapters, since we don*t currently document the difference between male and female connectors. If you want one as an adapter you would need to create new connectors in the cable connector xml for the male and female NL4 connector entries and update any cable parts/distributors using the old connector. Once in the cable connector xml the adapter would be automatically created in the adapter dropdowns Quote Link to comment
Ben3B
Hello Yes in the speakon case cable are fem-fem so if you want to use 10m+5m you need an adapter mal mal (like the photo in the precedent post) I would be able to count it So if I create connector nl4f and nl4m and select the good connector in the cable part, adapter will be automatically inserted ? thanks Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted November 26 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 26 it will only be inserted at the start or and of the cable object. if you want the adapter to be in the middle of the cable object for example joining 2 cable parts together you would need to make a cable part to represent the barrel connector and add it into the cable object in the cable configuration dialogue Quote Link to comment

I need a small cable and insert it between cable ... Too bad ( not really too bad but we always want more) that cable sex isn't take in consideration, especially with speakon cable, because you need an mal mal cable to plug 2 speakon together 😉 Quote Link to comment

For just counting, you could add the changer as a virtual part to the cables and use the equipment list feature to count them. To see the changers in place, instead of building a short cable, you can build it as a distributor with one input and one output. I showed something like this in part 2 of that coffee break where I placed plug boxes around a theater using one multi input and one multi output. @jcogdell did a video on building distros. It's posted in the university. I'm heading out for turkey weekend and can offer more instruction next week if you need. 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted November 29 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 29 @Ben3B The cable tools learning path on the Vectorworks university has videos covering adding new connector types, creating cable parts and distributors. because you are wanting a spookie style connector rather than a standard adapter creating it as a cable part is probably the best approach since it will then be included in the cable configuration. Creating it as a virtual will work as well but it will not appear in the cable object configuration. Creating it as a distributor while technically correct is probably the least efficient option since you would have to place them in the drawing each time and draw the cable running to and from it. Hello thanks for answer ;) I thought to virtual part (I use it for truss pin ;) ) but in this case it will not be efficient because I will have too much I'm aware that is not something essential but I like to learn and find solution :) And I ve saw all the university video about cable, i followed the cable suite but the tool is evolving quickly :) one more time thanks for your answer :) Quote Link to comment
