Default Tool Hot Key

The problem with the "single default tool hot key" being one of the alpha-numeric keys, is that the application has to know when it's supposed to display an "x" and when it's supposed to call a tool. Basically, if the cursor is active (in a text box, on the OIP, wherever) you're typing. If the cursor is not active, a keypress initiates a command ("x" calls the 2D Selection tool). By hitting the escape key, you "deactivate" the cursor making the keyboard available to call commands.

It would be very nice if VW recognized the F-keys. We'd just have to remember not to map them to both an OS and a VW command. Since I almost never use the Control key as a modifier, I'd be happy if it could be mapped as a single key.
