Amarin
Hello I need to count the wall areas inside a house that will be painted. I don't understand how to get the right numbers. If I make a filter for the table for the walls it count all the height of the wall including the part that is over ceiling and under the floor. I tried to use wall layers with materials, and make a filter for the material. That worked well on one hand, and show the right area, but it also shows all the other materials in scene, and I can't filter them by classes, or floors or by any other data. Can smw give an advice how it is better to do this? Quote Link to comment

Thank you for the help. So I made a small scene, with walls that have 2 finish materials on 2 sides wich I need to count. One side outside is full painted and the inside it is partly painted. Also I put few random objects to scene with materials. And I made a table for materials. As I said before it shows all the materials in scene, but I need only the 2 finishes of the wall. Tom W.
See Test scene_TW.vwx I've created a new spreadsheet worksheet which is looking for named Materials only rather than all the Materials in the file which is what your database report is doing. I've also made it so it's only looking for those Materials when they are used on Walls: I created two new objects which are using the 'Rot M' + 'Beige M' Materials but as you can see the worksheet is ignoring those objects. This is how I report on Materials. I have a 'master' worksheet containing all my Materials which is saved in Favorites. I just import it into my files + delete the redundant rows. This also gives you more flexibility when it comes to performing additional calculations in that you can do different things with different Materials depending on what they represent i.e. in your case you might want to convert m2 to litres of paint based on the manufacturer's coverage info, add a % for wastage then convert that into tins of paint. You can include completely different materials/products in the subsequent rows + apply a completely different set of calculations e.g. you might want to work out quantity of sheets of plywood or whatever. Or the next Material you might want to return volume rather than area. Etc etc 2 Quote Link to comment

Your worksheet looks fine, but I don't understand how you deleted the extra rows and columns and how you excluded the extra object from it. When I try to do this, it clears all. Mb there is a Video in Vectorworks University explained this? From your explanation, It shouldn't be difficult, but it is not intuitive at all and VW lack "how to" videos on Youtube. Tom W.
Your Worksheet is a Database Report as indicated by the sub rows on the left hand side: Mine is a Spreadsheet Report where each cell is independent. To create a new Spreadsheet Report, either right-click in the Resource Manager + select New Resource > Worksheet... or double-click to open the 'Create Resource' dialog + select 'Worksheet'. You can select a cell then go to Insert menu > Function... or Criteria... Or you can open up the Material Take-off by Category - Spreadsheet preformatted report + adapt that or copy/paste formulae from it into a new worksheet. Re Worksheet tutorials there is one on the University by @michaelk: plus you could seek out @Jonathan Pickup's videos which I think are very good on the subject. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm trying to do it, but it doesn't work. Quote Link to comment

I tried to make formula for other one, that doesn't have it, and it worked. So I need to rename the floors to make it work. Thnx one more time, you helped a lot. 1 Quote Link to comment
