Dick Jenkins
In my file I have the structural grid design layer stacked below the Floor Plan and Floor System layer, but in the viewports the structural grid is always on top, even though in the viewport layer settings it is positioned below the plan layers. Is there no a way to specify where in the layer organization the grid resides? Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
The Grid Lines appear on top in VPs because they are placed in the Annotations space. You can select them there + send them to back but I don't know that there's a way to only send them partially backwards if you want them in the middle of the stacking order... Quote Link to comment
Dick Jenkins
Thanks, Tom! I guess I don't fully understand how this tool works. I had wondered why I could change the length in a viewport and it did not change the size universally. I noticed a warning when I started to hide the structural grid layer in one of the viewports that hiding the layer would delete any changes I had made to the lines. Good to know but it seems odd. Basically you place the Grid Lines on the design layer but are free to customise how they are then displayed in VPs. The Grid Lines in VPs are instances of the Grid Line definitions on the DL. This means you have lots of flexibility from VP to VP, working from the same defining objects. See Help: https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2025/eng/VW2025_Guide/Annotation2/Structural_grid_visibility_in_viewports.htm#h Quote Link to comment
bcd
They're the oddest quantum thing ever. Very useful. Odd. They appear in the x-y plane one instant, and at the same time zoom up in z They'll appear in a section Viewport, unless it's been rotated off 90º. You can even delete it here and its there doesn't care. Wonderfully maddening. Quote Link to comment

bcd
I hear they may sometimes hide on the back of pdfs Quote Link to comment
TomKen
I wish we could get the section markers to show up automatically in elevation and section views same as the grid line tool. 4 Quote Link to comment
Dick Jenkins
So now I can't get the letter "I" to appear. When I go the next grid from "H" it skips to "J". When I try to manually insert "I" it will not let me warning me that I am trying to insert a value that is not incremental. Is there a work-around for this? Nevermind. I found a setting that excludes certain letters. Edited November 22, 2024 by Dick Jenkins Quote Link to comment
