VW 2025 Update 2 - New bugs

  1. Double clicking a hoist in recource manager bug is now fixed, It is possible to do this and actually draw the hoist symbol you double clicked. But now this bug is applied to trusses. If you double click a truss in recource manager, it activates the last truss drawn.
  2. Hoist Hook settings does not work at all.
    1. Canging "High Hook Height", only changes the trim height of the truss
    2. Well, there is all sorts of things going on, and nothing really does what it should....

Good job...

Have you logget both bugs?

- Is the second bug about the truss symbols? If so, it was already logged, so I have not logged it myself.

Would you care to elaborate on why the updates are released with this new errors? Why they are not found in testing.

- As a user you know how big Vectorworks is as a product. We try to make sure that the changes that we make are safe and do not cause regressions, but sometimes such issues get past us and reach you (the users) and I think that this is the case with most (if not all) software out there. When such things happen we prioritize them and try to fix them as soon as possible.

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for reporting the issues found!

I totaly understand that bugs can happen, but this bugs happen on every update or release. So it is not sometimes, it is always. This is why I'm poking at it. How many beta testers do you have and what are their instructions?

Inserting all types of predefined Plug-in Object, is not on the test list. Adjusting chain height and trim heigt on trusses is not on the test list.

- As a software engineer I do not know this information

I'm facing (besides the above ones) another truss - issue currently.

When I want to change the Trusses that are drawn at 90,01° to 90° I can not do it for the entire length at once, I have to do it 1 by 1. And by the time I put the 3th one correctly, the 1st one has placed himself back to 90,01°.
Can this be fixed please ?

Please post an example file for testing.

Thanks, Scott

We went live with update 2.1 this morning and there are fixes in that build for both of the original issues mentioned in this thread, the high hook height and double clicking on trusses to activate the tool.

I also wanted to follow-up on your questions earlier.  We have a large group of beta testers, about 150, and ideally they are working on real world projects in the beta software, but sometimes this is not realistic because of instabilities in the beta, or a change in the file format, etc.  They are a great help in finding issues.

With every release that goes out there is extensive testing in-house, but obviously not everything is found.  When an engineer makes a change, it is difficult to always know what other systems that change might affect.  It's like a giant interwoven ball of yarn, and pulling one piece can move something you didn't even think or know about.  Whenever we have these types of regressions, we make sure that we update our tests to cover these cases in the future.

Thanks again for your input and let me know if you have other questions.

@Ian Lane Thank you for your elaboration! This is highly appreciated! ❤️

Looking forward to install the updata!

If possible, I'd be happy do join your external beta testing team. Just to make sure the general spotlight(rigging) and braceworks stuff is working.

I'm willing to to this completely free of charge as long as it keeps bugs out from future releases.
