jeffroyer
I've just upgraded to 2025 - my first update since 2014! Much of the changes I'm finding are quite welcome but there are features that I can't seem to figure out. I'm attempting to edit the fill of components in a wall type. It is there buy "greyed out". If the wall type in question is from an older file, I can edit the fill. It is the wall types that come pre-loaded that are an issue. Thanks in advance - Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
It's likely the Wall is using Materials. These were introduced in VW2021 I think. This means the Component is getting its fill (+ texture) from the Material. Materials allow textures to be overridden but not fills, which is why the fill is greyed out but not the texture. If you click on the Material selector + change it to None then the fill option will be editable in the component settings. Alternatively, select a Material that has the attributes you want. Using Materials is no bad thing. 2 Quote Link to comment
jeffroyer
Thanks, Tom. I knew from past experience it would be something simple but perhaps not intuitive. Quote Link to comment

Attributes to "by Class". (Since VW 2025 ?) This way you will get Energos, IfcMaterial data exported, but can overwrite your visual appearance by changing Class Settings. Or in SLVP's, like in the pre-Material times, by overwriting your Classes. Edited November 16, 2024 by zoomer 3 Quote Link to comment

You can tell the Material the component is using to take its fill (and/or texture) from the component's class. But the attribute is still being controlled by the Material + can't be edited in the Wall. Plus I've always felt this kind of defeats the purpose of using Materials somewhat (freeing up classes to be used purely for controlling visibility) but no harm having it as an option! This has been available from Material's inception I believe? 2 Quote Link to comment
