Project File (Project Sharing): Deleting Referenced Resources 10 - 30 min of Opening a File

gloudon

Question

For the last couple days now my colleagues and I have come into the problem of every time we open the project file our VW starts to run the command before opening "Verifying (Deleting Referenced Resources)..." (see image below). I have purged the file before and after deleted all referenced files from this file to see if those are the culprits. Sadly no luck as even when there are no references to other files it still starts to run this same command which takes 10-30 min depending on the computer. I have even made a working file out of this project file and it opens easily which indicates to me that the problem lies in it being a Project File/using Project Sharing.

Thanks for any help.

@pb3214 Sort of. My workaround was to make sure everyone was out of the project file; saved and committed. Then to "save as" the project file as a vectorworks file (.vwx). Then delete the original project file and all working files (.vwxw). Lastly create a new project file from the saved VW file.

I think the problem is that as soon as you clear the metadata from a project file, it will try to find the deleted resources on subsequent openings of the project file which bogs down the system. Refreshing and creating a new project file is the only solution I have found.

@gloudon Apparently, @Berntsen was able to open the project file -- finally. It just took hours!

The report we got back from Vectorworks support was:

Looks like there are some guest resources leftover from references that are gone. These have a lot of resources to delete, and they are expensive to process.
Saving and recreating the project is one way to get those cleaned out and back to normal.

@Scott Campbell Is there a bug report for this because this seems like a bug.

Every time I clear the metadata for every project file I have, this same thing happens and I have to remake the project file. Which is about every 1-2 weeks depending on how many people are working on the file.
