Convert Term Panel to Custom Panel

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We have a situation where we need to add a number of term panels (24 way RJ45, 16 way XLR etc.) to a project. We are not yet sure whether these will be term panels or custom panels. We need to add them to the schematic now, but when others are involved in the project later, they may change to custom panels.

Is there a way to convert Term Panels to Custom Panel devices once placed that doesn't involve redrawing everything?

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

I'm sure you have the Debug List View extension installed ( Help Menu > Install Partner Products ). You can see all the parameters of a panel device there and see what to poke using script. Like change the type parameter to 'CustomPanel'. The naming would probably need to change as well.

We could look at packaging all that as an OIP button for lower-power users than yourself.

Practically term panels and custom panels are the same thing - a bunch of connectors on a piece of sheet metal. The differences are in the naming schemes and the handling of front and back connectors. There are still some weaknesses that I'm aware of. It all evolved based on the needs evident at the time.

While I would like to do a major clean-up of panels I also know how popular it is when a software designer decides to move all the controls around !!!!

@spettitt Ah  Niko has a better idea ( young minds! ) - the Eyedrppoer mode of the Device Tool can change the device type - what a great hack!

Yes, that's the one, thanks. Edit Device Array in Renumber mode will then batch-convert the naming syntax back to PanelName.01 as well, replacing the / with a .
