Wish - Hide Cloud Services App in Mac Dock

I wish, like other system extensions, that I had the options to hide the Vectorworks Cloud Services App in the Mac Dock, so I could only see it on the right hand side of the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.

@Kevin McAllister You beat me to this. I had the same thought but didn't get around to adding the Wishlist request.  It seems feasible because other Mac apps I work with have this option.

The Vectorworks Cloud Services app icon in the dock is an indication that the app has an open window. If you close it, the icon on the dock disappears, but the app keeps running and you can see its icon on the Menu bar. 

We are going to do an app re-org and redesign for next year, and one option we are planning to add is to hide the app icon from the Menu bar, so you would only see the icon on the dock if the app is opened. 

We will be adding the Cloud status inside Vectorworks as well, so you wouldn't have to keep the app window opened in order to check on your cloud processing status. So I think this would alleviate your problem to some extent. Maybe once you have the improvements, you could let us know if you still need to have the option to also hide the icon from the dock?

@inikolova Thanks for clarifying that closing all VW Cloud windows does not prevent the app from running in the background.  That works for me.

 

My preference would be to never have a VW cloud icon in the dock, but understand that other users may have other needs.  I would be OK with either having a menu bar icon or access within the VW main application for any cloud settings & maintenance.

 Ah ha! There's the distinction. Closing the window vs. quitting the application. I've always been quitting it to remove it from the dock.

 

Why not build the status dialog into the menu bar icon rather than having to open a window?

 

Each time I use Cloud Services I need to remind myself how the interfaces work. It's a bit convoluted.
