Chris J Clarke
I've been drawing an event in VW2025 with Braceworks, and now I get a Crash to Desktop whenever I try to calculate with Braceworks, or if I right click on a truss and "Select System Objects" in the contextual menu. I've exported it as a VW2024 file and it opens fine/calculates etc. I tried opening that v2024 verison in 2025, and it does it's conversion on opening, and then I get the same crashes... Is there a known issue perhaps? I'll have to go back to using v2024, as it's a big file that's taken me a long time to get to this stage. Could someone help me with what to do about finding the cause of the crash please? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted October 10 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 10 Obviously, this shouldn't happen. We'll likely need a copy of the file to test at HQ. If you share it here, we can take a look. If you need to keep it more private, please email tech@vectorworks.net so they can set up a ticket and retrieve a copy from you directly. One of the first things we do when testing is to see if it crashes on our machines. If it does, the next step is often to import the items from your file into a clean file and try again. What happens if you import the layer from your file into a new blank file? How old is the original file? Was it created before 2024? Quote Link to comment
Chris J Clarke
Hi Scott, Thanks for responding. I'll email it to the address you just gave. I'm under an NDA for the job, so I can't share it on here I'm afraid. I can't test those things you asked about until tomorrow now. It's the end of the day and I have to go and fetch my daughter from Nursery. I'll send the file to that address you just gave me though. Thanks for responding. It's a pretty new file, only built in v2025. I've exported it as a v2024 file and I'm working in that now. It opens and works fine in v2024. So it's possibly an issue specific to v2025? Chris J Clarke
@Scott C. ParkerI don't know if this is helpful, but I'm finding that if I work on the v2025 file on my laptop without any external screens attached, then it works just fine. No crashes when I "select system objects" from the right click contectual menu. As soon as I plug back into my dock that has my screens attached, it crashes again. I found that out by accident when i took my Macbook Pro downtairs in the evning to try and solve the problem while I was watching some tv.... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted October 14 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 14 Hi Chris, Which OS are you using? Quote Link to comment
Chris J Clarke
Hi Tom, I'm currently on Mac OS 14.2.1 Sonoma. I've been holding off from updating after I saw an issue on the forums about Vectorworks and later versions of Sonoma. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee TomWhiteLight Posted October 14 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 14 Yes, apple have fixed the external display issue with Sequoia, I don't seem to have this issue anymore. I have however found some other networking issues with Zoom on Sequoia so up to you. Quote Link to comment
Chris J Clarke
Hi Tom, I updated to Sequoia, and it's gone from bad to worse. I can't open the file in VW2024 or VW2025 now. I get a flash on my screens to pink, and then the whole Mac system crashes and restarts. The file also crashes on VW2025 on Windows 11, but the v2024 file I exoprted will open on VW2024 on Windows 11. I'm rapidly running out of options if I lose the VW2024 on Win11. I tried opening a blank template file on the Mac in VW2025 and that crashes too now... I could really do with some help from someone. I emailed the file to the email Scott gave me, but I haven't heard back from anyone. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
@Chris J ClarkeFor the type of problems you are seeing, I strongly recommend contacting Technical Support directly. There are not a lot of others reporting the issues you have so that make it should like a problem with your installation. Tech Support can help sort that much more quickly than random guesses from the users of the forum. $0.02 Quote Link to comment
Chris J Clarke
It seems I’m chasing two separate problems which I thought were the same issue. The first crash issue is down to my Caldigit dock that I use to switch between my Mac and PC. If I connect my external screen directly to the HDMI of my MacBook, that crash goes away. So I’ll have to think of a better way to switch. The crashing in VW2025 when I do a Braceworks command is an issue that I’ll have to deal with separately. Quote Link to comment

Chris J Clarke
Is that on the phone Tom? Or is there a special email address for that? I've made some progress troubleshooting the problem this evening. On the subject of the Braceworks crash, if I open the file and try to "Select System Objects" or do a Braceworks Calc, it crashes. If I open the file, drop a bit of truss in a new Layer, then do a "Select System Objects" or Braceworks Calc on the original objects, it's fine. If I then save and close the file, then open it again, I have to repeat the dropping in of the new truss object to make it work again... Wierd... I'll make sure to expalin it all properly with the Premium Support once I get a case started. Edited October 14 by Chris J Clarke 1 Quote Link to comment

Chris J Clarke
Thanks for that Tim. Someone has responded to me now from my email last week. It had gone into their Span folder. 1 Quote Link to comment
