Window not taking class attributes

LeeElston

Question

I have a window in a demolition class I want to appear as red in a demo layout, and although all the settings seem to be set up correctly, (it shows red in the preview pane of the window settings) it will only appear as black. Similar attribute settings for doors works fine... Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? TIA  Update - the doors which are appearing correctly are not set in a wall. Do I need to create 2 window objects, one an opening set in the wall and another window independent to get the appearance I want?

This is something I always have to remind myself about when I've not fiddled with window settings for a while.

It's a truly horrible bit of UI design. "2d visualisation" lets you set classes for how it appears in top/plan but then confuses matters by showing you a "3d preview" suggesting that these settings will affect how it looks in 3d, or in elevational views.

Then "3d visualisation" is named so as to suggest that here you can set something equivalent for 3d views, but you can't.

And once you eventually  find them, the 3d settings are in the section simply called "classes" but with nothing in there to confirm (other than trial and error) that these settings are relevant for 3d appearance.

@zoomer is correct. The 'Classes' pane (now called 'Materials and Classes') deals with the 3D appearance of the object. The Top/Plan appearance is controlled by the assignments in the '2D Visualization' pane.

Sorted for doors/windows thanks. Having same problem with walls... I'm sure in past I just creared a wall-demo class, and set attributes to red pen, but not working now....

It will be something simple but easier to diagnose if you post a file. Note this will only affect the attributes of the Wall container class: you will need to turn off the components. The component geometry is separate + sits on top of the Wall itself. But depends somewhat on how you have set things up.

You need to edit the Wall style > Edit Wall Attributes... > Make All Attributes by Class. Then if you create a Viewport + set the Detail Level to Low this will turn off the wall components + leave you with this:

I personally would also put the wall components in their own classes (not the same class as the Wall itself) as this gives you another way to turn them off without changing the Detail Level (which will also affect other things like the Doors + Windows which you might not want).

Or did you want all the components displaying in red too?
