VW 2025 multiple crashes experienced

Bart72

Question

Hi all,

In recent days I have had multiple crashes of VW 2025 (Macbook M1, Sonoma 14.6.1). Most of the times only VW crashed, but in 2 instances my computer shut down completely.

They mostly happened while working on visibility settings in sheet-layers in quite a heavy file (280 mB)

Any others experiencing these problems?

Hello,

I don't think it's anything necessarily to do with Vectorworks. Since macOS 14.6+ and now 14.7 I've had a number of kernel panics with the machine freezing and then shutting down and restarting. I also have a MBP M1 with 64GB UM.

Earlier this week it happened but I wasn't in Vectorworks although it was open. Do you have an external monitor as well out of interest?

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your comment. I do work with a LG monitor via HDMI.

It has never happened while working on other programs though, but it could very well be possible.

I know I am asking a lot of the machine, but hey, that's why I bought the M1 in the first place.

Thanks,

Bart

I run 2 LG monitors of a M1 MAX, I had a similar issue with 2024 and 14.6 lagging and freezing.

I think Sonoma is the problem.

I changed the inputs from HDMI to the USB C connectors and switched 'Displays have separate spaces' on.  Problem gone.

That's an interesting option. I think I'm gonna try that. Thanks!

I'm getting constant crashed, files taking ages to open or just causing the Vectorworks program to be 'Application not responding' and me having to force quit it - multiple times in a day!
I'm currently downloading VW2024 as I can afford to be losing this much time on the VW25 not working efficiently

Bart,

I'm having the same issue.  Also on a M1 MacBook Pro running Sonoma.  Vectorworks 2025 is crashing multiple times a day and has crashed my entire system multiple times.  I have NEVER had my system crash in the 3 years I've owned this particular computer.  Sure, programs freeze and I have to force quit, but the crash rate of this update is just too high.  I've had to go back to 2023 (I skipped the 2024 version).

Best,

Debbie

I get freezes in VW 2025 since installed for months now.  Usually, it comes back, and then I can continue until it happens again.  Often, I can continue in other applications while waiting for VW to come back.  So, I am still mostly using VW 2024.  But, I recently jumped in and am trying 2025 again.  I do have multiple monitors with the external connected via HDMI.  I am running Sonoma 14.6.1.  It was after installing Sonoma that this started.  I do not have the issue in any other app.

Strangely, it is happening consistently now when I am running iTunes at the same time.  The frequency goes down when I quit iTunes.  But nothing has been truly consistent enough to figure this out.  When in Vectorworks, I run it on the external monitor.   I am attached to an MacBook Pro M2 Max.

Best,

Greg
