Window "Show shim gap in plan" does not seem to function

jol

Question

Long time user (MiniCAD 6!), first time poster.

I've seen some very old posts along this line, but the Window tool in VW 2024 Update 7 (Build 772731) seems to show shim gaps in plan whether that button is checked or not.  "Use wall provided gaps" is unchecked, and the walls don't have any closure or wrapping settings to begin with.

This is on Mac, and this is on any file.  Could there be a setting I am missing?

This is actually working as designed due to how wall closures work.  With the introduction of wall closures, the only way to accurately show the wall closure profile and wrapping in all cases is to actually section the wall geometry at the closure for the Top/Plan representation.  Since shim gaps are modeled into the wall geometry and the Top/Plan graphics are derived by sectioning, they always show when using wall closures.  Because wall closures are now turned on by default in later versions of Vectorworks, the "Show shim gaps" option has been removed from the Door and Window in Vectorworks 2025 because the option does not work with wall closures.

Aha, so no proper function for that button in VW2024 perhaps.

Unless you're suggesting there is a deeper setting for walls that will eliminate closure settings in '24?

I suppose it is moot, at some point here I will move to VW2025 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you.

In VW 2024, you can right-click on the window object or window style, edit the “Plug-in Object Options”, and deselect the “Use wall closure” checkbox.

As you mentioned, it is a bit of a moot point since the “Show shim Gaps” setting will go away when you open the file in VW 2025.
