Problem when copying objects from a project to another project!

Recommended Posts

Without having enough info about what the objects are (groups? Symbols? PIOs?), I would guess that your two files have different symbols with the same names.

If so, change the symbol names in the original file so they are different from the symbol names in the target file. And then cut and paste again.

It's a simple speaker LAcoustic - Kara.

It's a new project, I don't have any object inside of the new project.

This is the pop-up that I get:

And you are right, the Kara Symbol doesn't stay on RM of the new file.
However, the SUB (SB18) is correct and I copy them on the same command.

If you check, the Sub is ok, but the speakers don't.

After that, I try this:

I add the KARA Symbol on the resource manager of the new file first and copy after that.
Works fine that way.

However, this is a correct behaviour?

In this case, I know all the symbols because are just two.
But I already needed to copy big projects for a new file. In these cases, this workaround will be very difficult to do.

I would say this is incorrect behavior. Could you report this problem to your local tech support?

You probably need to go to Speaker array tool on new file and reassign correct symbol to array. That symbol on your new file looks like default speaker symbol.

I get this same kind of behavior if I copy just Speaker Array object not including Speakers them self and just Update copied array. If I go to Configure Array dialog, that show it uses correct symbol but does not show that on drawing until you exit with OK. After that symbol also appears in RM.

I agree that this is incorrect behavior. Symbols should be visible after copy. Or at least use correct symbol after Update.

Why this happen?
How I can solve it?

Try these steps before doing the copy and paste.

  1. In the new blank file, open the Resource Manager and import the symbols and the records that are attached to the symbols from the first file.
  2. After you do the import, try the copy and paste again.

What happens?
If it worked, what happened is the pasted object was able to find the symbol and record in the current (new) file and placed it as expected.

If it didn't work, it's a bug and we would want the file.

As @klinzey mentioned, you shouldn't have the issue in 2025.

If I import the symbols beforehand, the copy-paste process works fine.

However, last night I ran into a strange problem.

I tried copying the same structures between two projects, but when I pasted them:
- 2 subs came through perfectly.
- 5 speakers were fine, except for one, which reverted to the default speaker symbol.

There was also an issue with the backline objects:
- The 3D geometry of the objects was correctly placed, but the texture had a significant offset from the object itself.
- This problem only occurred when I copied the entire DJ booth.

Interestingly, if I only selected the backline objects (e.g., CDJ, mixer, microphone) and pasted them, everything worked without any issues.

Has anyone experienced similar problems, or have any ideas for a fix?

If you could post a sample file and the steps needed for us to do the same thing you are doing, it will be helpful to figure out what the problem is.
