Corner Stair settings for the stair tool

Question

Looks like there are some 2025 upgrades to the stair tool, but I still can't find a "corner stair" option.

I have a number of 'corner stair' symbols - but you really one for each rise, tread, and step count.

plus inside corner and outside corner

plus all the different materials.

And it's still a separate geometry.

A "corner stair" menu (like the corner window menu) would be fantastic.

I realize this is probably something that occurs more often with hardscape design as opposed to architecture, but how do you all deal with corner stairs?

...I assume the answer is "don't use the stair tool."

In your case you could do it all with Extrudes (as a Curb I mean) but be interested to know whether it's possible to use 3D symbols: you could definitely use a symbol for the top step but not sure if you could use symbols for the other steps going down the way... I have not played with it much yet (it is quite complicated!) + I missed half the coffee break because of phone calls... 🙂 But it looks a very powerful well put together tool. Be interested to know how you get on.

At the other end of the spectrum there's also the legacy Simple Stair tool which you could try as well. You can create simple parametric objects very quickly which you can then use Split tool on to create mitred ends + join together. The Stairs remain within the object history so you can go back + edit them afterwards if necessary. Once you've performed a solid operation on a Simple Stair it loses its Top/Plan graphics so you'd have to create Auto Hybrid from the final assembly.

We heard here that the Stair Tool improvement is on the VW's list.

But I went to their external to do list and only found something about

a dynamic Stair creation feature, which sounds like mimicking Archicad's

3 or so years old feature.

What I am interested in is more to finally get accurate, healthy, watertight

Solids geometry first. And maybe later more Stair geometry features like

a full 360° U-Stair setup with 3 landings and complete reliable handrails,

cutouts by wall situation in plan (e.g. conic flight or indents) and such things.

Please just get rid of them!

I also use the railing tool,

as the Stair Tool railings are so bad and produce crippled geometry.

But if Stair Tool railings would be good, I would prefer these,

as these would auto create and auto update when you do changes to the Stair.

Hi @zoomer - we do have a "stair re-engineering" card on the public roadmap as well.

https://www.vectorworks.net/en-US/public-roadmap?url=redshift-rendering-mode?url=stair-reengineering-2025

This under the hood update is required for all the things we would like the stairs to do.

@Ruby S just a note, I tried to submit an "important" vote, but the website wouldn't let me submit.

Button doesn't respond - I think I've read about this issue on these forums

I'll ask the team to look into this as soon as possible.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
