OmerKfir
Hi all, Is there a way to model a cage structure like in the attached image inside vectorworks? I modeled it in Cinema4D but I was asked if it is possible to model something similar for an upcoming exhibition we are designing Thanks in advance Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
The one on the right is enough, see below. Use Multiple Extrude. The one on the left requires some work. 1 Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
@OmerKfir I was in and out yesterday. In retrospect, I don't think this is what you are looking for, but I would need more info on exactly what you are trying to do. For example are you looking for something like a "cage deformer", or a see through mesh of sorts. Quote Link to comment
bcd
Why not just import that into VW from C4D? Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
Just trying to dial in. Is this what your a looking for? Quote Link to comment
Jeff Prince
yes, you can model those in VWX directly, but probably not as easily in c4D. The one on the right is easy. Just draw the pattern in 2D as an unrolled surface and use the Deform tool to bend it into a cylinder. The left one can be done in a similar fashion, but instead of bending it, you can use the Slice tool to cut it into sides of a box and then 3D rotate each side into position. Either could be done with a texture instead if you are looking for quick and dirty. Here is one pattern drawn in 2D and then built into the two different shapes using the techniques I mentioned. Looking at the box with circular cutouts, a better rendition could be created by using spheres instead of extruded circles as the subtraction shape if you wanted something really nice. 1 Quote Link to comment
