Landscape Area issue with plants not staying inside border

Recommended Posts

I have the " Show all plant edges inside bed area" check box checked, but three of the plant objects are consistently outside of the bed area...

What's going on?

I tried another landscape area style, and everything WAS inside the border.

So I converted that style to unstyled, replaced each plant with the plants I was trying to use, and immediately the three plants I was having trouble with before and now outside the borders again.

below is the styled landscape area that works fine, and above is the same style, unstyled and plants replaced.

I check if these plants had some hidden geometry that was set over to the edge to make the plant bigger, but they don't. They are seemingly well-formed plant objects.

I'm also occasionally getting this warning "Plant diameters exceed the planting bed border in some areas" - but there isn't any input as to why or how to fix it...

Any ideas?

It is as I suspected, the insertion point for the plant show outside the boundary is not at the center of the plant.

You can see this by ungrouping the LA and looking at individual plants from the LA.  The plant object "SUCC-Echeveria 'Afterglow' EAG" has been scaled by an odd amount and has a different insertion point than its non-scaled counterpart found in the resource menu for this document.

Maybe it's a bug with how VWX makes LAs, maybe it is a bug with your custom symbol?

Those symbols have the insertion point in the center.

…not when they are part of the landscape area.

I haven’t used 2024 for any of my actual projects yet.  I will probably hang out on 2023 until 2025 becomes stable, which is usually 6-9 months after release 😞

@hollister design Studio, Yes, it's already booked in. It will be @Tony Kostreski who runs it, I believe.

Hi @Katarina Ollikainen I have posted about this on the forum already but I was wondering if you have seen any instability with the new Landscape Area and Hardscape tools? Specifically in the control of graphic attributes. I am on a windows machine and am experiencing some really buggy behavior from both tools when trying to set the graphic attributes for both of the tools.

Landscape Areas: It is not possible to show the plant bed area with a fill and a plant line above it with a fill. Tony did present this successfully in the coffee break but I have found it not to work. The graphic legend for the landscape areas does not update when you change the fill for the plant bed area (if I'm even able to change the fill. Most of the time it doesn't work)

Hardscape Tool: The 2D base fill does not show up even when you use a joint pattern overlay that has no background fill. The joint pattern overlay shows up as solid white with the linework over it. I have tried all combinations of "by style" "by instance" etc... It has worked here and there but is not reliable.

Anyway, Just trying to get this out as much as possible to see if this is a problem for anyone else or if it's just me.

Thanks!

@Jonk, Hi, I didn't see the coffee break Tony held, but I know there have been a few bugs in the Landscape area. It might be that he was on a later build during the webinar.

Perhaps @ScottLebsack has an update on the Graphic Legend?

Regarding the hardscape 2D issue with base fill - I have a later build and it is fixed in it, so it should be good to go with the next update. Exactly what you're describing here - sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't - is the most complex case to find the root issue. Hopefully, the engineers have covered all the permutations in the new update. If you still have issues after next update, please send a message directly to me and I'll look into it.

@Katarina Ollikainen Thanks so much for your response! Looking forward to the update coming out!

I'm glad to hear there is a update coming, any schedule for this?

The new options to define the Harscape objects attributes could fulfill my needs! This might be ground breaking for my use, i can't wait to get my hands on it 😄
