mwalker_mw
I'm paying for a perpetual license. This means I need to be able to reinstall and use the software at ANY point in the future. Whether you are in business or not. Please provide the links to download the proper installers. Not this 'Install Manager' BS. Stop. Abusing. Your Customers. It gets worse every single year. Edited September 11, 2024 by mwalker_mw 2 Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I also am used to save my Installers. Not sure if that makes still sense these days and I could access it any time from VSS portal. But this year I saved the extracted Zip of install Manager and was happy that it is much smaller in file size than previous DMG Installers. After watching this I even decided to delete the extracted installer and just saved the zipped installer manager which is even smaller again. And I assume, this thing would allow me to install already the most recent VW Version when I ever use it later .... BTW, I think the only time I ever revisited my VW Installer backups folders was when I install/prepare a new new Mac. But I likely went with a new installer online from VSS anyway. domer1322
is this a dumb question ? .... Why can't I just copy the current version (2024) and all it's libraries to a new computer and use it without an installer? Isn't that possible ? I'm planning on doing that after the new Mac mini is shipping. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
On Mac you can basically do this. In the past you could just use a disk clone and start it on the new Mac. Or later with Migration Manager. Now since Apples Secure chips it got much more complicated. This worked for 80% of standard Software. But it was always more expensive, more License protecting Software that got aware of a new home anyway and forced a reinstall. At least you could bring over all your settings and customizations this way. AFAIK that also worked similar similar Windows in the days. I would really love to do a clean install on my next Mac. But that is illusionary. So I do a bit of Apple Migration (iCloud and such) and mainly selective manual App Settings imports but you will still get so many old dad keychain keys back in or Settings and Libraries from old Apps you haven't installed again over a decade ago. Same for VW, I know it is risky and tedious to maintain but I still migrate my previous Workspaces as redoing all my customizations is eve worse. Only if Vectorworks stays in business. And... even then... it requires them putting customer interests over profits. You can bet there is some MBA out there trying to figure just how fast they can legally prune that repository to save them a few cents on storage. This is an unwelcome and inexcusable change. Just like the transition to subscriptions in the first place. If they want my money - they need to deliver new features. I'll happily pay. Otherwise I will keep and continue to use what I've already paid for. It's that simple. Instead we see more steps towards holding users hostage rather than simply delivering a quality product people want to use for a fair price. 1 Quote Link to comment

mwalker_mw
Thanks - it appears to be a viable workaround. Adds a bunch of arbitrary steps to burden the user while completely ignoring an obvious direct path for the most common use case. (So - very on-brand for the company) But it does look like it lets one archive things locally. Now the big question: does 2025 get things under 5 work-losing crashes per day?
