Could we have an option in DWG import to NOT import sheets?

For us:

 

DWG import is NOT for printing.

 

DWG import is for coordination and re-use.

 

Therefore, we do not need the sheet, and always delete it/them, referring to the issued PDF instead for 'caveats' etc.

 

Could we please have an option in DWG import to ignore Sheet Layers?

Great idea. I'd definitely choose the option to not import any sheets when bringing in DWGs. I always manually delete them after importing.

Sorry, I did not understand the initial problem from the post.

So you asked for a 2D conversion - just without the Paperspace things ....

 

Sounds like a reasonable demand.

So I would also vote for such an option in DWG importer.

Exactly.  Design Layers only.  No Sheets.  We have a layer filter when we import, but we cannot deselect sheet layers.
